MyThal, the Thalassawmia disease management vortal from INP, has the MSC Malaysia APICTA (Asia Pacific ICT Award) Award 2007. MyThal beats other competitors to claim the best of e-government and e-communitity application.

INP developed a comprehensive vortal for the Ministry of Health Malaysia. The vortal was designed from a holistic point of view and brings enormous benefits to the public, patients, health professionals and government policy makers.

MSC firms win leadership award

SEVEN companies were recognised by the Multimedia Development Corp Sdn Bhd (MDeC) yesterday for their leadership in the country's Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and outstanding contributions to the ICT (information and communication technology) industry.

Six companies got MSC Leadership awards for their research and development (R&D) efforts, while IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd received the accolade for its contribution in ICT services and outsourcing initiatives.

The six are Motorola Multimedia Sdn Bhd, Intel MSC Sdn Bhd, Exact Asia Development Centre Sdn Bhd, Green Packet Bhd, BT Multimedia Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Inter Nexus Protocol Sdn Bhd.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Samsuddin Osman presented the awards at a ceremony in Cyberjaya held in conjunction with MSC Malaysia's 10th anniversary that was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday.

Award recipients were selected based on significant contributions to the MSC by undertaking high value work in the field of ICT, high level of R&D spending, hiring large numbers of Malaysian workforce, and a high degree of compliance to MSC standards and guidelines.

MDeC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali said the recognition to the companies was timely as the MSC moves into its next phase, focusing on sustaining the country's competitiveness in the global market.

"As we mark the 10th anniversary of the MSC today, we need to take cognisance of its achievements over the last decade."

Abdul Halim described Phase One of the MSC (1996-2003) as highly successful. The second phase saw the MSC rolled out to two other regions - Penang Cybercity and Kulim High Tech Park.

Currently, the MSC has more than 1,400 MSC-status companies with 69 being world-class companies, and creating over 40,000 jobs.

MDeC chief executive officer Badlisham Ghazali said the firm is now giving priority to develop the creative multimedia industry.

"Many have known that we have about 95 multimedia companies within MSC which are already exporting their products and services."

MDeC is making a big step towards that with the production of Malaysia's first ever computer animation project.

The firm is producing 13 half-hour episodes of Saladin animated TV series aimed at breaking into the global animation market, Badlisham said.

Saladin will start its global marketing campaign once the pilot is completed by year-end.
